Betty Quirk, Barely Legal Leelando and Sevvy Skellington will be performing at Meryle Trouble’s “Never Gonna Grow Up” Burlesque Show on Friday, April 20th at The Toronto Underground Cinema!
Meryle is an extremely talented performer and a dear friend…. come celebrate her birthday with us by attending this show! She’s also a fellow nerd, so expect this show to be jam packed with amazing acts inspired by the most awesome things from growing up in the 80’s & 90’s. Also expect some amazing classic burlesque acts and other fun things :)

We are currently seeking out nerdy burlesque performers with the same nostalgic love for Nintendo. FromSaturday, March 24 to Friday, April 6, 2012, we will be accepting pitches for acts inspired by Nintendo characters from the NES days to the Game Cube era. If you’d love to be involved, please send us a pitch!
GUIDELINES:
- You must be 19 years or older to pitch.
- You may pick any proprietary Nintendo character or a character from a game that was originally released for Nintendo from the NES days to the Game Cube era. For a guideline on which characters qualify, please see the Character Guidelines & Restrictions below. If you have any further questions about character selection, please ask.
- As this is burlesque, full frontal nudity is not allowed. Pasties and panties/merkins/jockstraps are required.
- Men are welcome to pitch an act. We do love our boylesque!
- Double acts are also welcome, though we highly suggest that you also submit a solo pitch since spaces for double acts are limited.
- All experience levels are welcome to submit a pitch.
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
Please submit your pitch via email to peekaboo@undergroundpeepshow.com with the following information:
- Your real name
- Your stage name
- Your contact information (email and phone number)
- Your stage experience (burlesque or other)
- Your chosen Nintendo character
- Please give a detailed description of your idea for your Nintendo act, including music and costume
- In 150 words or less, please tell us about yourself so we can get an idea of who you are.
- How did you hear about the Underground Peepshow?
- If you are not chosen for this show, would you be interested in volunteering during the event?
- Please attach a headshot of you to the email
If you have made the short list, we will be contacting you in mid-April. Please note that if you make the short list, you may be required to attend an audition so we can get a sense of your style and what you’re all about. If we choose your act, you will be required to attend one dress rehearsal to be set within the week of the show, as well as a tech rehearsal on the day of the actual event. If you have any questions, feel free to shoot us an email and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
CHARACTER GUIDELINES & RESTRICTIONS:
- Only proprietary Nintendo characters or characters from games that have been originally released for Nintendo before any other console. We will only be accepting characters from the NES era to the GameCube (circa 2004). Here are just some examples of games that immediately come to mind when selecting a Nintendo character: Super Mario Bros., Legend of Zelda, GoldenEye 007, Donkey Kong, Pokemon, FInal Fantasy, etc.
- Game consoles that will be accepted: NES, SNES, N64 & GameCube. Game Boy & the original Nintendo DS will also be accepted.
- If a game was released for the consoles mentioned above that were originally released by other game consoles (ie. Sega, Playstation, Xbox, etc.) before Nintendo, they will NOT count.
- Game consoles that will NOT be accepted: Nintendo Wii. While we adore the Wii, we want to stick with the games that we grew up with and remember the days where playing video games didn’t include mandatory intense physical activity.
- SUPER SMASH: Characters from the original Super Smash Bros. and Super Smash Melee will be accepted. Due to the many character crossovers in Super Smash Brawl, we will NOT be accepting additional characters from this series that weren’t original Nintendo characters (ie. Sonic the Hedgehog).
- FINAL FANTASY: We will only be accepting pitches for characters found in Final Fantasy I - Final Fantasy VI as these were the only games in the series that were originally released for Nintendo before PlayStation took it over.
- METAL GEAR: We will only accept pitches for characters from Metal Gear or Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake as they were first introduced to North America on Nintendo.
If you have any questions or concerns about a character/game that we have not outlined on this guideline, please send us an email and we can discuss it.
